[D***] History Hike: Dams at Saddlebrooke

About this event

History Hike: The Dams of SaddleBrooke. Pace: Slow. Meeting point will be The Preserve Clubhouse parking lot at the basketball hoop.  After carpooling to the trailhead located on Willow Canyon Drive, descend to the Canada del Oro to Pierre Charouleau’s masonry dam which was built in the 1880s and learn its history. Then hike further upstream in the CDO to the "key" for Golder Dam then view the valve box.  The hike continues to top of Golder Dam remnant to see the emergency spillway, hydraulic controls, and great view of Saddlebrooke. Learn the dam’s history and see old photos of Golder Lake. The hike continues through the spillway and returns to the trailhead on the other side of the CDO.  Hike is approximately 1-1/2 miles; 200 feet elevation gain. *** rating due to short steep sections, loose rocks, and uneven terrain. Recommend cleated hiking boots, hiking poles and protective clothing.
